Introduction: Carlo Tinti (1) established a 10 mm barrier as the upper level of vertical bone regeneration. Tinti put forward as a prerequisite sine qua non to achieve vertical bone regeneration the total or partial use of autogenic bone as a pilling material and a barrier (membrane) to protect bone graft from soft tissue proliferation as these have an increased replacement rate and the absence of a barrier would lead to an encapsulation of bone graft by connective tissue and the failure of regeneration (2-13).
