Background and details
Microimplants can help us effectively solve many problems, including enabling dental movements with no need to place devices throughout our mouth.
A common example is the straightening of the second molars that have been tipped to the space from the extraction of the first molar with time. That can prevent an implant from being put into place to replace the missing piece, for example, with a lack of space. A microimplant can help us straighten the tilted tooth without placing an orthodontics device throughout the mouth or reducing the time of orthodontics treatment by simplifying a movement that otherwise becomes more complicated.
Another example can be molar intrusion. At times, when a dental piece is extracted and isn't replaced, the antagonist piece (the one that fits with the absent piece) continues to erupt. With the help of the microimplants, we can intrude (move to the gum) that piece, creating the space necessary to place the missing.
Other indications are: the closure of extraction spaces, the intrusion of molars in cases of open biting, the traction of canines included, posterior anchoring in cases where many pieces are missing or where periodontal support is greatly reduced by periodontal disease.. etc.
At Ortoperio Clinic we use microimplants as auxiliary elements in the treatment of orthodontics in those cases where, as a result of different circumstances such as the examples described above, these allow more efficient, shorter and more predictable resolution of the treatments. Our experience throughout the last 6 years has been very positive and today they are a tool we have been using regularly.
